School Exclusions in Nevada

In recent memory from everyone I have asked, we have only had one school exclusion in Nevada.  This recent one occurred in Washoe County this past Fall/Winter 2019.  It took place at Damonte Ranch High School beginning on November 13, 2019 and ending on December 14, 2019.  Students were out for 31 days.  Their clock of 21 days reset at about day 18 and 10 more days were added to the quarantine.  The total number of students with Pertussis was 4.  Each of these 4 cases of Pertussis was in a fully vaccinated student, according to the CDC schedule.  On Thursday Jan. 23, 2020, I will be speaking at the Legislative Interim Committee on Education.  Here is my speech:

On Jan. 28th, 2020, we will be attending our second Washoe County School Board meeting where the Washoe County Health Department will present to the school board the procedure and reasonings behind the exclusion policy for purposes of infection outbreak control.  We invite everyone who cares about the unjust practice of excluding healthy, exempt students from school for excessive periods of time to show up and just witness, or plan to speak during one of the public comment periods.  The school board meeting is at 4pm, Jan 28 at:

Central Administration Building, Board Room
425 East Ninth Street
Reno, Nevada 89512

Further documentation that we have accumulated while working with the Washoe County School Board of Trustees as well as in communication with the Washoe County Health Department is below.  This document is all about the failure of the pertussis portion of the DTaP and why exclusion for an infection like this makes zero sense.  Please feel free to use it to educate your lawmakers and leaders.
