URGENT AB237 School Based Health Centers – Hearing TOMORROW

****UPDATE at 11:53 AM 4/4 THE COMMITTEE CHAIR RESCHEDULED THIS HEARING FOR 12:30 PM TOMORROW 4/5 – they moved it up one hour**

HEARING WEDNESDAY APRIL 5 at NOW AT 12:30 PM Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services

Per Section 2 of AB237 Schoolbased health center” means a health center located or based on, in or near school grounds, property, buildings or any other school district facilities for the purpose of rendering health care or services to any person”.

The School Based Health Center model seeks to remove parents from their own child’s medical decision and treatment process as parental involvement is considered a “barrier to care” by the pharmaceutical industry funded American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Their full policy and guidance to member physicians and organizations can be seen HERE, and was produced with “extensive guidance from the “Robert Wood Johnson Foundation”, who have been “instrumental in the promotion of the SBHC model” and which “continues its support today by funding the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools“.

Along with SB172, which is currently being considered by the Nevada legislature and which proposes that children of ANY AGE be allowed to consent to pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines and medical care without parental knowledge or consent, AB237 will turn your child’s school into a medical facility where they can be preyed upon to take pharmaceutical drugs behind your back and without your knowledge or consent. This is an outright attack on parental rights and on our children who are unable to advocate for themselves in intimidating situations, such as in the doctor’s office.

MESSAGE (cut and paste or write your own): Parents, as the legal guardians of children, must be involved in every aspect of their child’s medical treatment. AB237 seeks to remove parental rights and creates the potential for children to be intimidated into accepting pharmaceutical products or medical treatments in a setting where parents are not available to protect them. I believe that parents know their kids best and have the God-given right and responsibility to direct the health, education and mental/spiritual/emotional development of their minor children. AB237 puts children in danger and violates the sacred parent-child relationship.  By calling parents “barriers to care”, the State is stepping in and deciding what is best for minors. This is egregious overreach on the part of the government and a violation of parental rights and religious freedom. I strongly oppose AB237.
